COMFORT, PLAY, TEACH (CPT)

Comfort, Play, Teach (CPT) is a parent participation program that uses a positive approach to parenting to support healthy child development.  The goals are to build parent’s confidence, strengthen the parent-child bond, and enrich their relationship.  Two Early Childhood Education staff facilitate the program.

“Comfort” is the primary need for children from their parents to make them feel secure, loved and valued.  “Play” is the “work of children” as they learn to explore and discover the world and their role in it.  “Teach” represents the way in which parents help their children learn how to share, expand their children’s knowledge, and include them in their experiences, with a focus on the parents as role models.

All lessons are composed of music, educational/sensory activity, snacks and literacy. Topics include math, creative art, language and literacy, science and nature, and music and movement.

The CPT approach positively impacts a child thinking, problem solving and social skills, and additionally provides a platform for professionals and parents to constructively discuss parenting and identify additional family supports that may be required for their successful settlement and integration.

The program includes 4 consecutive sessions, offered 2 times annually to eligible families with children birth to 4 years old.

At the end of each session a survey is collected which provides information for better program development and future improvements.
